The Seven Most Affordable Fuel Efficient Cars of 2010
By Linda Mason Hunter

The Daily Green (www.thedailygreen.com) is my favorite website for facts and info on eco-living. Recently it published a list of the seven most affordable fuel efficient cars of 2010. The criteria was that cars must get 31 miles to the gallon or more, and cost less than $20,000. Here are the seven cars:

2010 Kia Rio. Priced at $11,495 and gets 28 miles per gallon in the city, and 34 mpg on the highway..

2010 Smart for Two. Priced at $12,000, the Smart for Two gets 33 miles per gallon in the city and 41 on the highway, making it the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car on the market. It's also the most affordable. It was rated one of Greenopia's greenest cars of the year.

2010 Toyota Yaris. Priced at $12,355. Gets 29 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway.

2010 Hundai Accent Blue. Priced at $13,645. One of the most affordable, fuel efficient cars of 2010, the Accent gets 27 mpg in the city and 36 on the highway.

2010 Honda Fit. Priced at $14,900. If you're buying a new Fit, the automatic 5-speed gets the best mileage, with 28 mpg in the city and 35 highway. It is rated one of the greenest cars of 2010 by Kelly Blue Book.

2010 Mini Cooper. Priced at $19,500. The classic Mini Cooper gets 28 mpg city and 37 mpg highway. It’s rated one of 2010's greenest cars by Kelly Blue Book.

2010 Honda Insight. Priced at $19,800, the redesigned Insight is a hybrid with a fuel economy of 41 mpg. And it costs a few thousand dollars less than the leaders in this category. It ranks on both Greenopia and Kelly Blue Book's greenest lists.

There you have it—the seven most affordable fuel efficient cars for 2010: The Kia Rio, Smart for Two, Toyota Yaris, Hundai Accent, Hondo Fit, the Mini Cooper (my non-electric car), and the Hondo Insight.

Great info to have when you go car shopping. Me? I’m waiting for a good, affordable electric car to come on the market. Then I’ll grab it for city driving. This BP oil spill is giving me nightmares.
