EARTH DAY

Remember Earth Day: Friday, April 22nd

Swap It, Don’t Toss It

With Earth Day just around the corner, I hope you’re looking for ways to be more green in your daily life. Luckily, being green is easier than ever these days with recycling and swapping websites that allow people to re-use goods or exchange them for other items or services.

Here are a few helpful websites to check out:
* uSell (http://www.uSell.com) allows people turn their old cell phones into cash. Based on EPA estimates, over a billion wireless phones are gathering dust in households across the U.S. and will likely end up in landfills, rather than being reused or recycled. uSell recognizes the value of these electronic devices and offers cash incentives to people wanting to sell their phones. uSell then refurbishes them so people who need them most around the world can reuse them. For example, as of this week, uSell has purchased 43,982 phones and recycled nearly half of them, which equals over $1.3 million paid out in cash to USell customers.

      * In honor of Earth Day, Swap.com (http://www.swap.com) is offering free online swaps on April 22nd. With over one million members and millions of books, CDs, DVDs, and video games available for swapping, Swap.com is leading the swap movement both online and in communities across the globe. Swap.com provides people with an eco-friendly way to get items their family wants by simply recycling what they already have. Since 2010, Swap.com members have saved $11.9 million versus buying the products new off the shelf, and have reduced their carbon footprint by 10.7 million pounds. *

Rentcycle (http://www.rentcycle.com) lets you search, compare, and rent anything online by connecting you with a community of over 30,000 rental businesses in the first online marketplace purely for rental goods. When consumers share products, they're reducing their carbon footprint by reducing the amount of resources used and waste produced.

There you have it. Three new possibilities for buying recycled and swapping goods. Check ‘em out, then get busy going green.

Happy Earth Day!
